What do alternative data providers and your investors know before you do?

In the age of big data, the extent and methods of data evaluation have taken on a new dimension and affect companies worldwide. Can you afford to ignore this development or would you like to better understand the impact on your organisation? How to navigate through the ever-increasing data jungle?

Phil Fitz-Gerald, Director of the Financial Reporting Lab, introduced the participants to the topic with a systematic overview of alternative data sources. Undoubtedly there is increasing amounts of external data available to investors. In this context he showed how to retain ownership of your company’s story through your reporting and how to generate and maintain value in the future by using non-financial measures. Phil also gave concrete insights into how changing externalities such as climate change and a changing workforce can be reflected in your company’s reporting. On the other hand, Phil discussed the perspective of investors and show how they consume data – either through traditional analysis or by using AI.

Lucas Bruggeman, Partner & Head of Sales and Marketing at Sentifi, showed in his presentation how big data can improve your decision making. In an age where data is considered to be the new currency, the real challenge is to structure and make sense of it. Filtering out the noise and finding relevant signals helps professionals to stay ahead of the curve. Lucas demonstrated live examples of how individual companies are perceived and assessed by relevant influencers and how powerful the insights of collective intelligence can be for each company.
